This week’s interview is from a man of few words, Felix of Ink Heart Custom Kicks. He’s from the United Kingdom, and custom paints shoes, sunglasses, and other accessories with anime, cartoons, and other fun and kitschy things.
Tell me a little bit about how you got into painting kicks and what drew you to it? What keeps you inspired today?
I first starting painting shoes about 2 years ago, I had broken my leg and couldn’t work. I saw some sweet shoes on deviant art and thought, “I want to do that!”
I live in London and there is cool art all around my area everyday, this keeps me inspired
Why do you think people are so attracted to such geeky stuff? Hipster chic? Growing nostalgia? Why do you like it?
I think lots of people love cool geeky stuff, and I am one of them! I dont think everybody wants to wear what the shops tell them to.
What are your biggest challenges with your business? How do you conquer them?
My biggest challenge is keeping creative and coming up with new designs.
What’s your favorite part of your business?
I just try to do the things I like, I think that way you will always do your best. I really love getting nice feedback, it really makes my day when somebody loves what I have done!
Where do you see yourself going from here?
It is a dream of mine to have a little shop where I could collaborate with other artist, but I think that is someway away!
What new items are you working on?
I am currently working on some new sunglasses designs for the summer!
Any tips, quotes, or thoughts for aspiring entrepreneurs just starting out?
I think just enjoy what you do, don’t put to much pressure on yourself for everything you do to be great.
